There are many Bible verses that extol the value of a serious study of God's Word. For instance, the Psalmist wrote, "Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You." (Psalm 119:11). The apostle Paul exhorted, "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." (II Timothy 2:15). Since it is by God's Word that we shall be judged (John 12:48), it is imperative to our eternal welfare that we carefully examine it and apply it to our lives.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Bible from Freed-Hardeman University and a Master of Arts in Religion degree in Counseling from Harding School of Theology (formerly Harding Graduate School of Religion). He is married to the former Emily Waites. They have six children and eight grandchildren. Michael and Emily reside in Florence, Alabama and are members of the Wood Avenue church of Christ.
